Ease of Doing Business rank estimator

Lower rank means business is easier.

Estimate from a simplified four-variable model by Ina Ortiz (2014), inspired by the World Bank's Doing Business framework. This is not an official World Bank score. The strong, average and weak bands split the 190-economy scale into thirds; they are a display choice, not part of the 2014 formula.

Test case from the brief: income group 4, bank use 50%, outage losses 5%, permit days 30. Expected 59.918.

The formula, exactly as written

Predicted rank = 35.187 + (11.284 × Income Group) − (0.676 × bank usage %) + (1.593 × outage losses %) + (0.181 × permit days)

Inputs are checked before calculating: permit days 0 or more, both percentages 0 to 100. The result shows to three decimals, with a strong, average or weak band and a marker on the 1 to 190 scale. If a combination lands above rank 1 or past 190, the exact number still shows with a plain note.
